The two closest branches to C.K. McClatchey High School are the Ella K. McClatchey Branch, located at 2112 22nd Street and the Central Branch, located at 828 I Street. Materials regarding the Great Fire of London are generally held at the larger Central Branch Library, but can be requested for transfer to the Ella K. McClatchey Branch. Many historical people were present in London during the catastrophe, including King Charles II, the King of England at the time, Samuel Pepys, and John Evelyn and their reports of the fire have survived along with diaries and letters. These documents tell researchers what happened during the Fire. Books and other resources that include these first-hand reports as well as books by researchers who have studied them are available in the library.

Welcome to London Is
The Great Fire of London in 1666 was one of the major events that shaped London into the city that it is today.
Very early in the morning on September 2nd, 1666, the Fire began at a bakery in Pudding Lane and spread until approximately 80% of the city was destroyed. Rebuilding the city took many years, but was eventually shaped into a modern city based on the principles of philosophers, scientists and architects who wrote during the Age of Enlightenment.
